Crowning Glory

Like many businesses, here at Cassino we’ll be putting the bunting out in May. Celebrating The Coronation of His Majesty The King, which will take place on Saturday 6th May at Westminster Abbey, we’ll be flag-waving and raising a toast or two, for sure.

And our part of the world has seen many royal visits in days gone by. The Duke of York (later King George VI) visited Littlehampton in 1930, with the Queen (or Princess Elizabeth as she was then) visiting Goring in 1951 to open the Courtlands Recovery Hospital. While in the area she is also said to have visited Worthing Town Hall, when she purchased a flag being sold in aid of the NSPCC.

But the late Queen actually made her first visit to our neck of the woods as a child. In 1929, at not quite three years of age, she spent two weeks in Aldwick, Bognor, visiting her grandfather George V, who was recuperating from a serious bout of ill health. Photographed making sandcastles on the beach, like all little children she clearly enjoyed her visit to the seaside. As for her grandfather, it was following his time in the town that he granted it the royal ‘Regis’ suffix.

When Princes William and Harry were children, they too enjoyed seaside holidays locally. The late Princess Diana’s father, Earl Spencer, owned a sea front property in Bognor Regis. Diana and her boys are said to have enjoyed several happy holidays here, playing on the beach and splashing about in the swimming pool in the garden.

At Cassino, the roots of our business are in ‘family.’ Run by the third generation of our clan, our familial bond is something we value highly. That is why we aim to ensure that everyone who steps through our doors feels like part of our family too. We know how important it is for people to have a sense of belonging. And it’s worth remembering that families come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes it is the people we choose; not necessarily our blood relations, who we regard as family. But whether you are an occasional visitor, a regular or just passing through, you can be assured of the same warm welcome at Cassino. Royalty or not, you’ll be treated with equal courtesy, kindness and good cheer.

The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort. Conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, we’re in no doubt that this historic moment will be a day to remember. So enjoy the celebrations and, whoever you count as kin, remember to do what that old clever clogs Albert Einstein said: “Rejoice with your family in the beautiful land of life.”

Long live the King!
